The Albany Police Department (APD) is the law enforcement agency of Albany, Oregon, United States.[1]

The Albany Police Department provides a number of services to the approximately 50,000 residents of Albany.[2] [3] [4][5]
The patrol division is composed of four patrol sergeants, four corporals, twenty-eight patrol officers, and two K-9 units, whose primary responsibility is responding to 9-1-1 calls throughout the city. In 2002, the division responded to 26,179 calls for service.[5]
The Criminal Investigations unit is primarily responsible for investigating all major crimes within the city, and providing support to the Valley Inter Agency Narcotics Team (VALIANT) and the Benton County Major Crimes Team.
Unlike other police agencies, the Albany Police Department provides its own dispatch center. The communications center is responsible for the operation of the 9-1-1 telephone service, and communication between police.
The Albany Police Department was founded in 1864 when Albany was incorporated, although the title of "Marshal" was used in place of the term "Police Officer". Since then the department has grown and added a reserve program and an explorer scout program.[6]
